14.05.09/ Press freedom in the Republic of Moldova is in danger, as it is systematically, methodically and abusively barred by the state authorities. 

Although over recent years the media legislation in the Republic of Moldova has improved with the help of international organizations and civil society, and is now in line with European standards and norms, the actual state of press freedom has gradually deteriorated. The worst situation ever was during the 2009 parliamentary election campaign and the period following the elections.

13.05.09/ To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution in Europe, MitOst initiates the International Journalist Award “1989-2009: Europe in Dialogue”.

We seek contributions on the process of Europe growing together beyond outdated dividing lines between the East and the West. The year 1989 must thereby form the initial point for the description of current and upcoming developments in Europe.
