Media NGOs statement on arrest of journalist Ernest Vardanean
13.04.10/ The signatory nongovernmental media organizations firmly condemn the arrest of the independent journalist Ernest Vardanean by the secret services subordinated to the Tiraspol authorities.
 
The freedom of expression and defamation: Legal provisions and real practices study launched in MD
26.03.10/On Thursday, March, 25, the Independent Press Association (API) and Independent Journalism Center (IJC) launched the study The Freedom of Expression and Defamation: Legal provisions and real practices. This work is designed for journalists, judges and attorneys-at-law, and other persons interested in the freedom of expression as essential value for democracy and its limits, when this value turns into a counter-value – defamation.
 
The Parlament passed the draft of the law on the freedom of expression in its first reading
25.03.10/ The draft was presented on Thursday, at the Parliament session, by the head of the Parliamentary Commission for Culture, Education, Research, Youth, Sports and Mass-Media, Corina Fusu.
She underlined that the draft of the law was developed at the initiative of the Independent Journalism Center.
 
Independent Journalism Center hosts a training session on press marketing
19.03.10/ On March 17–18, the Independent Journalism Center (IJC) organized a two-day practical training for newspaper managers from the Transnistrian region. The training was attended by the representatives of the newspapers Profsoyuznye Vesty, Chelovek I Ego Prava from Tiraspol, Novaya Gazeta and the radio station Novaya Volna from Bender.
 
Transnistrian conflict discussed at the press club meeting
06.03.10/ On March 5, 2009 the Independent Journalism Center (IJC) organized a special Press Club meeting, in Varniţa, located nearby the Transnistrian border. The topics discussed during this meeting were: the result of the 5+2 negociations (organized in Vienna on March 1-2) and the future of settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
 
Moldova 1 tv channel director selected
20.02.10/ Angela Sîrbu is the new director of Moldova 1 TV channel. She was elected by the Observers’ Council (OC) of the Public Company “Teleradio-Moldova” (TRM) on February 20.
