23.08.10/ In the period from 15 to 21 August, ten investigative journalists working for print media, radio and TV stations based in Chişinău, Bălţi, Comrat (Gagauz-Yeri TAU), and Tiraspol went on a study visit to Bratislava, Slovakia. The visit was organized by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC) in partnership with People in Peril Association, Slovakia. |

26.07.2010/ On July 24 and 25, the Independent Journalism Center organized a training program for video editors, representatives of local TV stations from Cimislia (Media TV), Drochia (Drochia TV), Rezina (Elita TV), Soroca (SOR TV) and Ungheni (VTV TV). |

03.08.10/ On July 28, 2010, Victor Ciobanu, a reporter with Jurnal TV, was assaulted by an employee of the Center for Fighting Economic Crimes and Corruption (CCCEC) from the Republic of Moldova. The journalist was shooting a piece of news about a copyright courtcase in front of the Chisinau Court of Appeal`s building while he was approached by an officer. Ciobanu has stated that, without introducing himself, the CCCEC’s employee destroyed the camera and removed the memory card which contained images shot during the assault. Later on, at the police station, he returned the memory card to the journalist, but all images had been removed. As a result of assault, Ciobanu got bruises on both his arms and hands. |

30.06.10/ The independence of press in Moldova for the second consecutive year registered the lowest score in the past 11 years – 5.75 points, according to Nations in Transit–2010 report, issued by the American organization Freedom House, which analyses the state of democracy in the world based on eight indicators. Nations in Transit–2010 report states that the Moldovan media encountered political and financial pressures last year. The Communist Party of Moldova that had ruled the country until last summer transformed the Public Company “Teleradio-Moldova” (TRM) into its press service, it is underlined in the same report. |
