Broadcasters to benefit from in-house training under auspices of anti-trafficking project (27 June)
IJC @ 10:30 PST, 27/06/05

In-house training sessions at 12 local radio and TV channels throughout Moldova are scheduled for the week of June 27 in the framework of the project "New Perspectives for Women" (NPW). They will be carried out by trainers from Internews-Ukraine in partnership with specialists from the Chisinau-based "OWH - TV Studio" and the Moldovan office of Radio Free Europe. These visits will mark the second stage of a training series for Moldovan broadcasters aimed at improving the coverage of human trafficking and prevention thereof. NPW is a four-year project, which is administered by Winrock International, a US non-governmental organization, with funding from the US Agency for International Development (USAID). NPW provides training, information and support services to the population segments that run the greatest risk of being trafficked. The Independent Journalism Center (IJC) participates in the implementation of the project awareness-raising component. Five workshops for broadcasters were carried out in March-May 2005. Later this year print journalists will have an opportunity to go on study trips to Ukraine. Other activities planned in the framework of the project include production of specialized broadcasts on the issue, media monitoring, and elaboration of a specialized university-level course (IJC).
