Senior managers of local and national radio stations learned aspects of planning and producing specialized programs on human trafficking during a three-day workshop in Chisinau. The workshop was part of a training series organized under the auspices of the project "New Perspectives for Women"(NPW). Led by Pavlo Novikov of Internews-Ukraine and Vitalie Dogaru of the Moldovan office of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the workshop highlighted the general situation with human trafficking in Moldova, efforts of non-governmental organizations to combat this phenomenon, along with a variety of broadcasting techniques aimed at organizing effective public information campaigns. NPW is a four-year project, which is administered by Winrock International, a US non-governmental organization, with funding from the US Agency for International Development (USAID). NPW provides training, information and support services to the population segments that run the greatest risk of being trafficked. The Independent Journalism Center (IJC) participates in the implementation of the project awareness-raising component. Five workshops for broadcasters were carried out in March-May 2005. Print journalists will have an opportunity to go on study trips to Ukraine. Other activities planned in the framework of the project include production of specialized broadcasts on the issue, media monitoring, and elaboration of a specialized university-level course (IJC). |
