Aspects of producing TV programs on anti-trafficking issues came under scrutiny during a three-day seminar organized in the framework of the project "New Perspectives for Women." The agenda of the training, which was hosted by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC), included discussions about the phenomenon of trafficking (its national and international dimensions), as well as media role in covering socially-important issues. Special sessions were devoted to general principles of producing different types of TV programs on the issue, ways of identifying topics, sources, participants, and challenges of interviewing trafficking victims. Lead trainers were Anton Topciy, of Internews, Ukraine, and Vasile Botnaru, head of Moldovan RFE/RL service. Participants, most of whom work for local TV stations, viewed and analysed several TV programs on the issue, produced by Internews. The training format included a combination of presentations, discussions, and hands-on exercises. Later this year the IJC will organize a similar training for radio producers, which will be followed by in-house consultations and study trips to neighboring Ukraine. The project is supported by a four-year grant from the USAID, which is administered by Winrock International, an American non-profit organization. The program includes a variety of training, information, and support activities, which are expected to benefit over 35,000 vulnerable women in Moldova. The IJC participates in the implementation of its awareness enhancing component (IJC). |
