Major problems highlighted during a series of in-house consultations, along with the concept of specialized broadcast programs on human trafficking, were discussed during a two-day bootcamp organized by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC) for eleven representatives of radio and TV stations from around the country. The bootcamp is part of the "New Perspectives for Women" (NPW) - a four-year program providing training, information and support services to the population segments that run the greatest risk of being trafficked. The bootcamp was led by trainers from Internews-Ukraine together with specialists from the Chisinau-based "OWH - TV studio" and the Moldovan office of Radio Free Europe. Participants analysed technical challenges facing local broadcasters, as well as the content and format of their current programs. The NPW awareness-raising component includes the production of TV and radio programs aimed to prevent human trafficking in Moldova. The trainers described the format and concept of the future broadcasts, and moderated a brainstorming session on possible program topics. Group discussions were combined with individual consultations. Broadcasts featuring human trafficking and prevention thereof are scheduled to start later this year. Other activities planned in the framework of the project include study trips for print journalists to Ukraine, a media monitoring, elaboration of a specialized university-level course for journalism students, as well as internships for young women at local broadcasters. NPW is administered by the U.S. non-governmental organization "Winrock International" with funding from the USAID (IJC). |
